I guess we could compare this to Terminator 2, where, right until the T-800 and T-1000 meet, none of the audience are supposed to know who's the good and bad timetravelers. But the ad campaign spoiled it all that Arnie was the good guy, and yet this movie still manages to be a sci-fi classic despite this and other flaws like x-treme teen John Connor.

Switcheroos like that only really work if the actual villain is more impressive than what was suggested, which was definitely not the case.
That, and it was just a bad idea to begin with.

Yeah, don't tell us your villain is an intimidating, insane hippy-terrorist-philosipher and then give an exploding business who's trying to start a war for a quick buck.
