I wachtd 2001 a sapce odyssey mmm wible
I pretty much agree with xolta's remarks about it being overrated, at least on the "wachtability" side.
I mean, I know all about the artsy stuff about it, it sure checks off all the boxes from symbolism to visual cues and special effects choreography. But it's just overall boring. I'm not going to watch it again, at least not without my finger on the fast-forward button.
If there's visceral enjoyment in here, it is in talking about the film, not so much sitting through all 141 minutes of it.

There's already an advertisement in the movie, it's called INTERMISSION

( and I watched 2001 with a friend recently and we both agreed it was slow but interesting.)

I actually really like 2001 and I think the more "boring" scenes build excellent tension via visuals and sound design- it's a film best watched on a big screen with loud sound.

I do agree with the tension building scenes but it's that after a while that tension bubble burst and i got exasperated.
And I fucking lost it when the lightshow came on, I had a vague idea of what I was expecting but it certainly wasn't that.

2001 is a very poorly paced film no movie should feel like it last for nine hours. See Peter Jackson's King Kong or a extreme example would be space thunder kids.

Just wahcted The Thing. (1982)
Insert obligatory "why didn't I wacht this earlier". It's good on all levels. I'm honestly baffled as to how it got bad reviews when it initially came out. I do agree how it's one of the best, if not THE best, horror films of all time, wachting this right after REC really highlighted how many things The Thing got right.

I still haven't managed to get a friend to watch the thing, is very saddening. I will likely have to cinematically rape him to get him to finally watch it, Clockwork orange style.

To me it felt way longer then it was and that to me is bad pacing. It felt like a 7/ 9 hour film. But to each there own.
