biggest horse fly i'd ever seen. he was drowning in the dog's water bowl so i saved him. and he let me take this photo. its a spider - i dunno what kind - but its a spider

I put some plants from the local river into my quarantine tank, and this little guy survived the cleaning I gave them. He was such a little cutey, hunting tiny things I don't know the names of. I scooped some daphnia out of the pond to make sure he had enough to eat. Either he decimated their population, or they don't fare well indoors. I checked on him every 20 minutes in the days leading up to his release into the wild as an adult, but he somehow managed to drown himself despite every precaution I'd taken. It was very depressing.
